Exit Strategy

I intend to keep my business under my name for the long run. The "Eco-Shredder" is something that I have put a lot of thought and effort into. I respect people who sell their businesses to larger companies for profit, but that is never a route I would be willing to take. When you sell the rights to your idea you are forced to watch it go down routes that you would never intend it to. Even if there is less profit to be made from taking this route I believe its worth it to keep your business model on track and in line with your values. I think my exit strategy has influenced my business decisions to be more long-term because I know that I will be sticking with my ideas for the duration of my business and not selling it off. My strategy has made me more patient with my business growth and allowing the right opportunities to come to me. I won't be afraid to pass up on a deal so that I can wait for a better one to come.

Final Reflection

1.) Over the course of the semester, this class has been a roller coaster full of highs and lows. I found some assignments very enjoyable and others I dreaded. For example, I really enjoyed coming up with my idea to fit a need. I had never done anything like that and it was the first time I had been excited about solving an issue that was related to school in a while. On the other hand, there were many circumstances that I really hated doing assignments for this class. I disliked completing interviews the most because they were time-consuming and it was hard to find unbiased subjects. 2.) My most formative experience has to be my idea of the "Eco-Shredder." I truly believe that this invention could help eliminate plastic waste in our world by a huge percentage. I am definitely proud to have thought of the bigger picture(Environment) when picking my problem to solve because at the end of the day all of our little problems are so irrelevant it isn't fu...

Celebrating Failure

Like professor Pryor explained during lecture, we will fail in our lives countless times. When you are going through hard times it's not about being able to find an instant solution, but to be resilient and to keep working despite the lack of success. An example of me failing in my past would be when I took a big hit in my lacrosse game two weeks ago. I usually can avoid hits but I was fatigued and took the hit. I suffered a concussion and was forced to lay in bed for over a week. This was a huge setback for me being so late in the semester, so I was given the option to medically withdraw from school. I decided that I wouldn't let this one failure define all of the hard work that I put in the entire semester and got back to work as soon I was mentally able to. I took the hard path and I believe I can still finish with a good GPA. I have learned a lot about tenacity in this class, and I have to credit what I learned in entrepreneurship to my positive attitude today. I am n...

elevator pitch number 3

https://youtu.be/P5SCfPCXnZM Based on my feedback from my first pitch (my second didn't upload correctly), I have made solid progress in becoming more convincing and preparing myself better prior to the pitch. The only feedback I received was to prepare my pitch more because in my first video I was nonchalant in how I recorded and got ready. In my recent video I put more emphasis into practicing my pitch and giving a better effort.

napkin idea (revised)

Hey guys! My name is Kerry Thomas and I'm a finance major here at the University of Florida. I grew up on Long Island in New York where I spent most of my time doing outdoor activities. These activities included: lacrosse, hunting, fishing, boating, beaching it, and more. My appreciation for my environment is endless and I want to help keep it beautiful and safe. The current trend of environmental destruction via pollution and human ignorance bothers me and that is why I chose the idea that I did. Customers, what I offer to you is a way to save money as well as a way to contribute towards a cleaner environment. My idea, the Eco-Shredder is a machine which breaks down plastic waste into tiny pieces. Each week, these bits would be collected along with your other garbage. The plastic that you gave would then be weighed and you would then receive a tax refund at the end of each year for the amount of plastic you helped recycle. I am offering the Eco-Shredder to any American...

This is my customer avatar. I think of this person as someone like myself in their early twenties who are looking to make a difference and change the world for the better. It is definitely not a coincidence that I would imagine someone who is likeminded to myself to be a user of my product.
