Testing the hypothesis, part 1

1.) The opportunity that I want to pursue is helping ensure a clean environment for generations to come. My idea of the "Eco Shredder" is a great way to help take steps to a cleaner environment while also saving the american taxpayers their hard earned dollars.

2/3.) America is one of the largest pollution contributers in the world, this is a problem of every single inhabitant on the planet earth because one day there is not going to be a place left to put all of our waste. The "Eco Shredder" would help combat our wastful habbits by shredding all of the plastic material that would otherwise go into landfill into fine peices. Americans who return their shredded plastic so that it can be recycled then receive a tax reduction per lb of material given back. The tax return helps insentivize americans that otherwise wouldn't want to help contribute towards a cleaner environment.

4/5.) In my inteviews I was able to find a general consensus that most people at least say that they would contribute to my program. One response that I received in most of my interviews was, "I know I would participate in this waste reduction program, but I think alot of Americans are too lazy and the program might not have enough people contributing to make any real difference." I think this response is typical becasue America is divided as ever and it is nearly impossible to get a majority of the population to work towards a common goal. This fact is very sad, but it is a reality. In conclusion, I learned that my idea sounds really good in theory, but it may not be very realistic.

  1. This is a really great idea! I wish it could be put into action because if any recycling was incentivized, more Americans would definitely be motivated to be eco-friendly. I disagree, I think it is realistic depending on how you carried it out. If everyone had their own personal shredder in their home and once a week took out the pieces along with the trash, that would be very reasonable.

  2. Hey Kerry,

This is a really good idea. There is a huge market for solutions that are sustainable and environment friendly. The potential problems that could arise with this are obviously present, but there are always going to be obstacles that get in the way of any business idea or opportunity that you have. Good luck actualizing this and working on it for the remainder of the semester!

  3. Kerry, this is such a great idea! The market for environmental sustainability is rapidly growing since people are now becoming more educated and aware of the environment. I feel like this product would do so well in the market. The best part about this product is that it would do great things for the environment and it encourages people to protect the environment. Your descriptions were very clear, and I enjoyed reading your post!
